The Procession of Light

On our final evening, we were summoned to the palace for a special evening that would mark our farewell to Mt. Olympus.
Escorted to the highest balcony of the temple by servants in flowing garments, we were asked to seat ourselves on the veranda that overlooked the ancient mountains.

What a spectacular view! The hillside below marched away from us in a dazzling display of verdant, colorful gardens and rocks of exquisite colors, set into intricate patterns. A sparkling stream, seemingly lit from below with diamond-like reflections of dancing light, happily flowed away from the palace into the distant valley below. Graceful servants brought us cool drinks and sweet treats to eat while we awaited the coming spectacle.

The azure sky in the west was aglow with unworldly colors of purple, red and gold as the sunset approached.
Then, as the evening began to descend, shimmering drops of light began to appear on the darkening horizon, moving in a widening circle, sinking into the valley below. The first strains of a mighty chorus in song echoed from a multitude without number. We gazed in wonder, transfixed, as flickering lights now began to move slowly up the hillside along the marbled path. A million pinpricks of silver and golden light carried in procession advanced steadily, while multicolored glass enclosed orbs of blue, red, green and silver, hovered over the ground as a canopy of light, sheltering the procession beneath their rays.

Joyful music echoed across the mountain, while bright torches appeared from below, as servants in festive colors streamed out of the palace gates to welcome the advancing visitors. We were scarcely able to take it all in. The procession seemed to stretch for miles as the valley below was caressed in a soft golden light. Thus began a festive evening filled with glorious music, dancing and food to tempt the gods.

The music depicts the joyous procession that wound up the mountain from the valley below. Can you see it?.........Davutus
